Syria: ISIS seizes 90 percent of Yarmouk refugee camp near Damascus

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) on Saturday made major gains in Syria by conquering most of a refugee enclave near Damascus.

Reuters reported the radical group now controls 90 percent of the camp in Yarmouk. ISIS is now knocking at the doors of Syrian President Bashar Assad, only miles away in Syria’s capital.

The United Nations estimates approximately 18,000 civilians find themselves trapped between Assad’s forces and ISIS militias. Britain’s Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added Syrian jets had bombed ISIS positions near the camp Saturday.

Yemen: Tens killed in battles between pro-government tribes and Houthi rebels in South Yemen

Tens of Houthi militants were killed, injured and arrested in fierce clashes between them and pro-government tribes in southeastern Yemen, sources in Shabwa said on Sunday.

The battles broke out in the Beihan town where Houthi militants backed by dissident forces loyal to ex-president deployed in the past few days, they said.

India: 3 indian soldiers killed by National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) rebels in ambush in Arunachal Pradesh

Three Indian soldiers were killed and four wounded in an attack by suspected separatist militants in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday, military and police officials said.

The soldiers died when suspected rebels of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) opened fire on a military convoy traveling in the remote Tirap district, said a senior military official, who declined to be named.

Chad: Army says hundreds of Boko Haram militants and 9 soldiers killed in clashes

Chad’s army said its forces had killed hundreds of Boko Haram militants and lost nine of its own troops in clashes in northern Nigeria on Wednesday.

Soldiers from Chad and Niger drove the insurgents from Malam Fatori, one of Boko Haram’s last major footholds near Nigeria’s border with Niger, earlier this week. Wednesday’s clashes took place as they were mopping up.

Egypt: 5 security personnel and 15 terrorists killed in North Sinai clashes

“Clashes” erupted early Thursday between “terrorists” and security checkpoints in the cities of al-Arish and Sheikh Zuweid in North Sinai, leaving five security personnel and 15 “terrorists” killed, the armed forces spokesman said.

Spokesman Mohamed Samir added in a statement that security forces are currently combing the area and “chasing the remaining terrorist elements to eliminate them.”
