A Libyan official says at least ten civilians were killed when three separate car bombs exploded simultaneously in the eastern coastal city of Darna.
Hamid Albandag, the city’s representative to the internationally-recognized government, says the bombings, which went off Friday evening, set off clashes between militants belonging to the Islamic State’s local affiliate and al-Qaeda-linked militias that continued into Saturday afternoon.

At least 36 militants were killed and tens of others injured in overnight military air raids that lasted until Saturday morning in Egypt’s North Sinai province, a security source said.
“The military airstrikes targeted hideouts of militants south of Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah cities of North Sinai,” Xinhua cited the source as saying. He added that the militants belong to Sinai-based, al-Qaeda-inspired Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis (ABM) group.

Militants killed at least six United Nations soldiers yesterday in northern Mali, in one the deadliest-ever attacks on the world’s most dangerous peacekeeping mission, claimed by al-Qaeda’s north African arm.
MINUSMA, the UN’s force in the volatile west African nation, said its patrol was ambushed around 9:00 am, 45 kilometres (28 miles) south-west of the city of Timbuktu on the road to Goundam.

Syrian opposition rebels have launched a large-scale attack on regime strongholds in the northern province of Aleppo, killing and wounding some 80 people, a monitoring group says.
“This is the heaviest attack by rebel forces Aleppo has witnessed since two years, as more than 400 shells fell on regime-held areas in Aleppo,” Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told dpa.

At least 145 people were killed after Boko Haram militants raided three villages in the northeastern Nigerian state of Borno, witnesses said Thursday.
The Islamist militant group’s attack late Wednesday in the Kukawa fishing village killed 97 people, resident Kawu Aisaye told CNN.
