Hundreds of Taliban insurgents have stormed and seized control of the administrative headquarters of a district in northern Afghanistan where fighting has raged for days, officials said on Tuesday.
Amanuddin Aman, spokesman for the police chief of Sari Pul province, said hundreds of militants had surrounded and attacked the Kohistanat district HQ on Tuesday morning.

US-backed Kurdish forces in northern Syria captured a key town from Islamic State militants Monday but accused Turkey of shelling Kurdish villages in the area, potentially complicating the international campaign against the extremist group.
At least four fighters and several civilians were wounded in three waves of alleged Turkish shelling in an area controlled by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) and the Free Syrian Army.

India blamed a Pakistani militant group for an attack on Monday that killed six people and threatens to disrupt planned talks between the nuclear-armed neighbors.
As many as four gunmen dressed in army uniforms attacked a bus station and a police complex in India’s northern Punjab state bordering Pakistan. Security forces had the militants surrounded in a police complex for more than eight hours.

Iraqi government forces have recaptured a university campus on the outskirts of Ramadi from the Islamic State group, seizing a key position for any offensive to retake the city, officials said on Sunday.
Iraqi forces had recaptured parts of Anbar University in May, shortly after losing the provincial capital to the jihadists, but later pulled back.
