Yemen: Pro-government fighters retake control of a airbase from Houthi rebels
Yemeni pro-government fighters have retaken full control of the strategic al-Anad airbase in the southern province of Lahj from Shiite rebels, the Defence Ministry said.
“Lahj province has … been freed of Houthi rebels,” a top commander of the fighters loyal to exiled president Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi told dpa on condition of anonymity.
Al-Anad had been a major launch pad for rebel attacks in southern Yemen.
The Houthis, however, released a statement on the rebel-controlled Saba news agency denying that the airbase had been recaptured.
