Syria: 2 Hezbollah commanders killed fighting rebels in Idlib province
Two Hezbollah commanders have been killed fighting alongside government forces against rebels in Syria’s Idlib province, reports indicate.
Hasan Hossain al-Haj, a senior commander in the Lebanese militant group, was killed Saturday amid a Syrian military offensive across the country. The Daily Star reports a second unidentified Hezbollah commander was killed Tuesday.
With support from Russian airstrikes and Hezbollah militants, forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad over the weekend launched an offensive to regain territories lost to rebel forces earlier in the year.
The coalition on Sunday was reportedly trying to cut off insurgent forces in Idlib, where an alliance of rebel groups — including al-Qaida’s Nusra Front — ejected most of the Syrian regime in April.
