South Sudan: Revolutionary Movement For National Salvation (REMNASA) rebel group merges with Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement-In-Opposition (SPLM-IO)
An opposition group from Western Equatoria state, Revolutionary Movement For National Salvation (REMNASA) declared on Wednesday its merger with the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement-In- Opposition (SPLM-IO), led by first vice-president designate, Riek Machar.
The merger was signed on Wednesday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, between Henry Odwar, head of the SPLM-IO negotiating committee with the group and REMNASA chairperson, Martin James Cleto,.
Wednesday’s agreement is a follow-up of a first meeting held last June where a delegation of REMNASA met with the SPLM-IO leadership.
In June, the two groups discussed how the political and military organizations can forge together a unity that can effect fundamental change to the lives of South Sudanese.
