The Shan State Army-North (SSA-N) has rejected an order from the Burma Army to withdraw from positions east of a motorway splicing Mong Nawng, Mong Hsu and Kyethi townships in central Shan State, with the group now bunkering down to defend itself against further attacks.
Government troops had given the Shan armed group five days to comply with the order or risk further fighting. The deadline passed on Sunday.

Russian air strikes may have killed more than 40 people and wounded dozens more in Syria, according to reports.
Jets bombed the rebel-controlled town of Ariha in northwest Syria earlier today, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claiming at least 60 people had been killed and wounded in the attack.

The Israel Air Force attacked Syrian army and Hezbollah targets in the area around Qalamoun in Syria overnight Saturday, Israel Radio reported citing Syrian forces.
The Lebanese media outlet Almustaqbal reported that there were dead and wounded Hezbollah fighters in the attack which hit the area close to the Lebanese border.

The spokesman for the United Nations mission in Mali says an attack on a U.N. base in the country’s northern Kidal area has killed at least three people and injured 20.
Olivier Salgado said Saturday that attackers fired rockets into the peacekeeping base early in the morning, killing two U.N. peacekeepers and a mission contractor. He said that four of those wounded were in serious condition. He did not have further details.
