Egyptian security forces have shot dead 24 Islamic State militants in central Sinai, 70 kilometres from the crash site of a Russian airliner the group says it brought down, security sources say.
They said on Monday that security forces killed the militants as they hid inside a cave in a mountainous area and that they captured eight other militants.

French President Francois Hollande vowed to destroy DAESH on Monday after its atrocities in Paris, promising tough new anti-terror measures at home and intensified bombing of Syria.
France and Belgium staged dozens of raids on suspected extremists as the manhunt continued for the eighth, including in a known radical hotspot in Brussels where some of the attackers are thought to have lived.

French fighter jets on Sunday bombarded the Syrian city of Raqqa — a major stronghold and self-declared capital of the radical Islamic State group — destroying a command post and a training camp, France’s Defense Ministry said.
According to AFP, 20 bombs were dropped on the Syrian city.

Yemen’s national army and resistance repulsed a major offensive launched by the Iranian-backed Houthis and their allies in the Southwestern town of Taiz as the coup rebels tried to block relief aid being smuggled into the besieged city.
Military sources said heavy fighting erupted South of Taiz, during which 19 coup insurgents were killed and 27 wounded, adding that the national forces seized a large quantity of weapons left by the rebels after they retreated.
