Philippines: A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel killed and 5 soldiers hurt in clashes in Compostela Valley
A communist rebel was killed while five soldiers were wounded in two separate clashes Monday between the military and the New People’s Army (NPA) in Compostela Valley.
A press release from the military said the first encounter, which lasted for an hour and a half, occured at 10 a.m. at Sitio Mainit, Pagsabangan, New Bataan, and left one rebel dead.
The clash was between troops from the 66th Infantry Battalion and the NPA’s Guerilla Front 25 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
The body of the slain rebel was brought to Alar Funeral Homes in Compostela Valley. He has yet to be identified.
The second incident, meanwhile, happened in Sitio Lugpaton, Brgy Kingking, Pantukan, and resulted in the wounding of five soldiers.
