Ethnic Ta’ang troops clashed with the Burma Army in Shan State’s Kutkai and Namtu townships on Jan. 12, in the midst of celebrations for Ta’ang National Revolutionary Day.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) was celebrating its 53rd revolutionary day when Burma Army soldiers fired near Hopon village in Kutkai even after both sides had ceased engagement, an official from the armed group said.

A total of 27 people have died in an Al-Qaeda attack on a luxury hotel in Burkina Faso.
Armed terrorists seized the Splendid Hotel and a nearby cafe in the capital Ouagadougou after letting off bombs last night, with people from around 18 different countries caught up in the assault.
Around 33 people were wounded. Around 150 people were evacuated, the French ambassador tweeted.

Troops from the self-declared state of Somaliland have attacked an army base belonging to Khatumo state in northern Somalia, a minister said.
Confirming the incident, the deputy minister of the interior minister of Khatumo state Abshir Abdulaziz said in an interview with somali radio shabelle that their troops clashed with Somaliland soldiers at an area near Sahdheer town.

Heavily armed fighters from the Islamic extremist group al-Shabaab attacked a base for African Union peacekeepers in southwestern Somalia on Friday, blasting their way into the compound and exchanging fire with peacekeepers, a Somali military official said.
Dozens of al-Shabaab fighters started a complex attack on the military base which is run by Kenyan troops who are part of the African Union force in the town of El-Ade, not far from the Kenyan border, Ahmed Hassan told The Associated Press by phone from Elwak, a town near the scene of the latest attack.
