Syrian troops have reconquered over 150 cities and villages from December through the start of January, according to Russian Gen. Sergey Rudskoy, who was quoted by Tass as saying that Russia’s air force is helping moderate rebels advance towards Raqqa, the Syrian capital of ISIS.
‘’In December 2015 - said the general - militants were kicked out of 134 villages and cities and from 19 other settlements in the first days of the new year'’. In addition, according to Rudskoy, ‘’the most significant successes were registered in the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama, Homs and Raqqa'’.

The Islamic State group is claiming responsibility for the Baghdad mall attack that killed 18 people on Monday. Gunmen stormed into the Jawhara Mall after setting off a car bomb and launching a suicide attack at its entrance.
Iraqi officials say the attack which lasted over an hour, killed at least 18 people and wounded 50 in the city’s mainly Shiite east.

Four members of the security forces were killed and more than a dozen wounded in clashes with the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) over the weekend.
Three members of the security forces lost their lives when terrorists detonated hand-made explosives during heavy fighting in the central Sur district of Diyarbakır province on Sunday. One of those killed in the fighting in Sur, which has been under curfew since Dec. 2 due to military operations, was a police officer while two others were specialized sergeants in the Turkish army.

Afghanistan security forces took control of Darqad district bordering Tajikistan on Sunday, an official said. “After days of clashes with the Taliban, the rule of law has been maintained,” Sanatullah Timor, provincial government spokesman, told Xinhua.
“The joint forces were working to find and defuse roadside bombs and landmines in the area,” Timor said. A total of 25 militants were killed and 20 others wounded during the cleanup operation that started on Friday night, the source said.

At least ten Somali National Army soldiers were killed and scores wounded when al-Shabaab raided an army base near the strategic town of Baidoa, the regional capital of Baay, residents said.
Al-Shabaab fighters riding pick-up trucks and using rocket-propelled grenades have attacked a military outpost at Gof-Gadud village, just 30 kilometers east of Baidoa town early on Thursday morning.
