At least 13 Egyptian policemen were killed after a mortar shell struck a police checkpoint in Egypt’s North Sinai, announced the Ministry of Interior.
The attack, which IS-affiliated Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis (Wilayat Sinai) claimed responsibility for, left at least seven others injured and targeted the Safa checkpoint in El-Arish.

Since the beginning of March the Burma Army has launched 15 offensives, many with jet fighters and helicopter gunships, against the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Kyaukme District, northern Shan State.
The TNLA Information Department said that the Burma Army launched four airstrikes on 6 March, four on 8 March and three on 10 March, all involved the use of fighter jets. Fighting also broke out on other days.

Russia says its jets are flying in support of the Syrian military’s offensive to recapture the ancient city of Palmyra from Islamic State (IS) militants.
Sergei Rudskoi of the Russian Military General Staff said on March 18 that Russia’s aircraft based in Syria were conducting up to 25 bombing raids daily to back up the “large-scale operation.”

Militants aligned with Islamic State have released a video which purports to show the beheading of a man the extremists claim had been working for the Philippine National Police.
The graphic video posted online on Thursday to an Islamic State channel on an encrypted messaging service was accompanied by a statement from a group calling itself “Ansaru’l Khilafah Philippines”.

Thirty insurgents in Somalia’s Al-Qaeda-aligned Shebab jihadist group were killed Wednesday in heavy clashes in the south and northeast of the country, Kenya’s armed forces and local authorities said separately.
In the first incident, the Kenya Defence Force (KDF) said it had thwarted an assault on a military camp at Afmadhow in the Lower Juba area in southern Somalia, killing 19 rebels and seizing a haul of weapons.
