Ongoing militia infighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo is forcing thousands of refugees to flee into Uganda.
Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Thursday, Charles Yaxley, UNHCR Uganda communications officer, confirmed that 6,000 new arrivals came to the country in April.

A militant group has purportedly claimed a new attack on a Chevron oil facility in Nigeria’s restive Delta region, a message on a Twitter feed previously used by the group to take credit for strikes against oil facilities said.
There was no immediate confirmation of the attack from residents of the area or Chevron.

Kenyan soldiers killed 21 al-Shabaab fighters in Somalia on Wednesday as the military continues to battle the Islamist insurgents near the country’s border.
The soldiers targeted a group of al-Shabaab jihadis in western Somalia and suffered no casualties, David Obonyo, Kenya Defense Forces spokesman, said in a statement released to Reuters.

The Afghan Taliban on Wednesday confirmed that its former leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed in a US drone strike last week and appointed a successor.
In a statement sent to media, the insurgent group said its new leader is Mullah Haibatullah Akhundzada, one of two Mansour’s deputies.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) - a coalition containing Kurds, Sunnis, Christians and Turkmen and led by the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) - kicked off the operation to retake Raqqa in Syria on Tuesday.
The SDF alliance rallied close to 50,000 Kurdish and Arab fighters and, according to Rudaw news agency, the offensive on Raqqa launched on three fronts.
