At least seven people, including the head of the Afghan National Directorate of Security (NDS) for Sancharak district of northern Sar-e-pul region, were killed during a Taliban ambush, TOLO news reported Monday, citing sources in local authorities.
The incident occurred early in the day, when the the head of the NDS for Sancharak was returning home from funerals.
“NDS head of Sancharak and an employee of the department, four soldiers and a child were killed,” security official Enayatullah Habibi said as quoted by TOLO news.

At least 35 Syrian army soldiers were killed and dozens more wounded on Sunday during clashes with Islamic State’s (ISIS) fighters near the administrative border of Raqqa province, northeastern Syria, activists reported.
Clashes erupted between the Syrian regime’s forces and ISIS militants near the Tabqa town on Sunday evening, one day after the Syrian army made an advance against the group southeast Raqqa province.

Turkey’s military says its forces have killed 27 Kurdish rebels in Hakkari province near the Turkish border with Iraq and Iran.
In a statement issued Sunday, it said air strikes carried out Friday killed 20 fighters of the Kurdish Worker’s Party, or PKK, in Semdinli district.

A Libyan militia group said Saturday it recaptured a strategic airbase south of Sirte from Islamic State (IS) militants, local media reported.
The Gardabiya airbase, just 12 miles south of IS-controlled stronghold Sirte, was retaken on Saturday afternoon, according to the Libya Observer news website.

Kurdish militias have retreated from a strategic neighborhood in the Syrian city of Aleppo after Al Nusra and Ahram al-Sham militants launched a heavy offensive across the embattled city, Russian military say.
“Following heavy shelling and unceasing attacks on Kurdish positions by fighters from Jabhat Al Nusra and Ahram al-Sham terror groups, the Kurdish militias left their positions in the district of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo and retreated, ” a spokesman for the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria said in a statement on Saturday.
