Several people were killed in clashes between the army and former rebels at a military base in the Democratic Republic of Congo Wednesday, officials said.
Tension had been mounting for days at the military base in Kamina, in the southeast, where more than 2,000 former rebels from various groups are stationed as part of a government disarmament programme.

Bloody clashes between Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and opposition forces rocked the tense areas of Kurdistan and Baluchistan on Monday.
In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, sources close to the opposition rejected all information provided by state media outlets on the ongoing clashes, adding that they would soon reveal the truth behind bloody developments in the Iranian cities of Sardasht in Kurdistan and Khash in Baluchistan.

Forces backed by Libya’s unity government have consolidated their positions on the edge of Sirte, repelling sniper, tank and mortar attacks as they seek to oust ISIL from its North African stronghold.
Fighting resumed on Wednesday near Sirte’s port, which government-backed forces captured last week. There have also been intense clashes in the neighbourhood and around the Ouagadougou conference hall, south of a five-square-kilometre zone still controlled by ISIL, security sources said.

Eritrea and Ethiopia have accused each other of starting clashes on Sunday between their soldiers in a militarized border region.
Ethiopia’s Information Minister Getachew Reda reportedly said both forces have suffered significant casualties.
Eritrea had accused Ethiopia of starting the fighting, which broke out on the Tsorona border.

Afghan and Pakistani forces clashed in an escalation of tensions between the neighbouring countries, killing at least three people and forcing the closure of the main border crossing, officials said Tuesday.
The fighting erupted along the Torkham border on Sunday night and continued erratically over the next two days, apparently after Afghan forces objected to the construction of a gate on the Pakistani side.
