At least seven Islamic terrorists attacked an upscale restaurant in the diplomatic quarter of Bangladesh’s capital Friday night, killing 20 people and taking more than a dozen others hostage before confronting authorities in a 10-hour long standoff.
Early Saturday, a Bangladeshi commando raid supported by armored vehicles resulted in the deaths of at least six attackers and the capture of a seventh. Thirteen hostages were rescued. Two police officers were killed in an earlier gun battle with the militants.

Armed terrorists have been holding as many as 20 hostages at a cafe in a diplomatic zone of Bangladesh’s capital for more than eight hours. The standoff followed a gunbattle with police that left at least two senior officers dead and 40 people injured.
ISIS claimed responsibility for the terror attack, according to Amaq, an ISIS media branch, but some officials cast doubt on the claim.

Daesh retook the Hamdan small airport near the Iraq border a day after it was seized by Syrian rebels backed by the United States.
The air base is near the city of al-Bukamal, where Daesh took control in 2014. The city is one of the main transit points used between Syria and Iraq by Daesh.
Rebel fighters recently began taking territory surrounding al-Bukamal, including militant-held positions.

At least 70 regime and rebel fighters have been killed in 24 hours in a government assault and a jihadist-led counterattack in northern Syria, a monitor said Thursday.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 30 regime soldiers and 39 rebel fighters had been killed in battles around Al-Maleh, north of Aleppo, since Wednesday afternoon.
