Afghanistan: Taliban attack on hotel in Kabul leaves 4 dead
At least four people died in an explosion and shootout at a hotel for foreigners in Kabul early Monday, just days after the deadliest attack on the capital in 15 years.
Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi said a truck laden with explosives was detonated about 1:30 a.m. near the Northgate Hotel in the city’s northern outskirts. Two attackers then exchanged gunfire with police for several hours. Besides the two gunmen and the truck driver, one police officer was killed and two others were wounded, Rahimi said.
“Foreigners staying at the guesthouse suffered no casualties,” he said.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying they had targeted a “key American guest house.”
