A third faction of separatist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Reformed Indigenous People of Biafra; RE-IPOB, has emerged.

Recall that the crises rocking IPOB took a new twist yesterday, following an announcement by a splinter group, the Rebranded Indigenous People of Biafra, TRIPOB, renouncing the Biafra group.

Philippines: 15 Abu Sayyaf terrorists killed in Sulu clashes

At least 15 members of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf, including a sub-leader, were killed in two separate encounters in Patikul, Sulu on Friday, the Philippine Army said.

In a report released to the media, the PA’s Special Operations Command (SOCOM) said 15 bandits were killed in two separate clashes with the military—one erupted at about 6:15 a.m. Friday in Sitio Tubig Magkawas and another at noon in Sitio Pangi, both areas are situated between Barangay Langhub and Barangay Bungkaong in Patikul town.

Somalia: 9 killed in Mogadishu beach restaurant attack claimed by al-Shabaab

Nine people including two Shabaab jihadists have been killed in an attack on a beach front restaurant in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

Al-Qaeda linked Shabaab jihadists attacked the Banadir Beach Restaurant, setting off a car bomb before exchanging fire with security forces. The assailants also threw grenades at security services who had cordoned off the area.

Philippines: Government and National Democratic Front (NDF) rebels forge deal for indefinite ceasefire

An indefinite ceasefire between the communist rebels and the government takes effect today after their representatives signed a joint declaration in Norway to stop armed hostilities in preparation for talks to end once and for all the decades-long rebellion.

The declaration of the truce came almost simultaneously with the announcement of the release of three policemen by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.

Iraq: Iraq forces retake key town of Qayyarah south of Mosul

Iraqi forces on Thursday pushed the Islamic State group from Qayyarah, a northern town considered strategic for any future offensive against the jihadists’ last stronghold of Mosul.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi hailed the victory as a key step in the fight against IS but hours later suffered yet another political setback when lawmakers impeached his defence minister.
