Syria: Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) take Syrian city of Manbij from ISIS

Syria Democratic Forces, with air support from the US-led coalition, have taken near complete control of Manbij, the group announced. Islamic State fighters had held the northern Syrian city near the Turkish border since 2014.

The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a coalition of Kurdish and Arab fighters, had fought since June to drive Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL) out of Manbij, a key city on the supply route behind the jihadist group stronghold of Raqqa and the Turkish border.

Ukraine: Army near Crimea on high alert level amid Russia tensions

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Thursday put the military on highest state of alert along the frontier with Crimea after Russia accused Kiev of making attempted incursions into the annexed region.

Moscow’s FSB security service said Wednesday it had thwarted “terrorist attacks” by Ukraine’s military on the Black Sea peninsula that Russia seized from Ukraine in March 2014.

Libya: Pro-government forces seize ISIS headquarters in Sirte

In a major step toward ousting the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) from the jihadist group’s main Libyan stronghold of Sirte, pro-government forces said they had captured ISIS’ headquarters in the city.

Though ISIS fighters remained in several other parts of the city, officials said, but seizing control of their headquarters - the Ougadougou Centre, a conference centre where ISIS had set up base - has been the key goal of the forces loyal to Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA).

A skirmish broke out between the Burma Army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) near the armed group’s Laiza headquarters on 7 August.

After the Burma Army sent troops from the Shadan Pa banana plantation in Nam San Yang to Bandawng Kahtawng on the Myitkyina-Bhamo Road—on the way to Laiza—fighting started in Ja Ing Yang at 3 pm, lasting one hour.

Mali: 5 Malian soldiers missing after clashes with Macina Liberation Front (MLF) rebels

At least five Malian soldiers are missing after clashes with a terror group, security sources told Anadolu Agency on Tuesday.

Intense fighting broke out between the Macina Liberation Front, an affiliate of Ansar Dine — a terrorist group linked to Al-Qaeda in the Maghreb Islamic (AQIM) — and the Malian army Monday after terrorists ambushed a military convoy in the Mopti region.
