Jubaland government in southern Somalia has launched a major assault on fewer bastions remaining under the control of al-Shabaab militants in an operation dubbed “Juba River”, Garowe Online reports.
Jubaland troops backed by African Union peacekeepers have wrested control of Abdalla Birole, some 60km south of the southern port city of Kismayo.

Exhausted Afghan security forces were surrounded on Friday by Taliban fighters in the capital of Afghanistan’s south-central province of Uruzgan, a day after fighting off a concerted push by the militants, officials said.
The Taliban attack, in one of the country’s top opium-producing areas, has exposed how thinly stretched Afghan security forces have become as they try to contain Islamist insurgents in other areas of the country.

A clash erupted Thursday afternoon between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the Mon National Liberation Army (MNLA) in Tae Chong village of Dawei District. The two ethnic armed groups both claim land in the area, also known as Tavoy, in Tenasserim Division.
“Members of the Karen National Union [KNU] came into the village,” Nai Win Hla, a spokesperson from the New Mon State Party (NMSP), told The Irrawaddy Friday.

There seem to be confusion in the camps of Boko Haram as two factions of the sect reportedly engaged in a gun battle.
According to a report by AFP, members belonging to the Shekau faction had engaged Islamic State backed Abu Musab al-Barnawi in Monguno area of Borno State.

The Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike in the Golan Heights on Wednesday night, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions at the predominately Druze town of Hader.
According to a military source in Al-Quneitra, an Israeli attack drone struck the 1st Regiment’s headquarters in the town of Hader, causing significant damage to their equipment.
