Fighters linked to the militant Islamic State (IS) group abducted and killed around 30 civilians, including children, in central Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday, raising concerns about the group’s expanding presence beyond its eastern stronghold.
The killings occurred late Tuesday north of Firoz Koh, the capital of Ghor province, with the local government calling it a revenge attack after a local IS commander was killed.

Nearly a dozen South Sudanese soldiers were killed at a road ambush along the road leading to Kola-Wedakona, located north of Upper Nile state, a rebel official said.
The armed opposition spokesperson in northern Upper Nile state, Captain Paul Malieth, claimed their forces foiled an attack allegedly planned by pro-government on their stronghold, Sunday evening.

At least 59 police cadets were killed and an estimated 116 injured after a handful of militants attacked a police training center in Quetta, Pakistan on the evening of Oct. 24. Hundreds of cadets were held hostage for several hours during the attack, according to local news reports.

Heavy fighting broke out between forces loyal to Puntland and Galmudug state in Galkayo city, the regional capital of Mudug region in Monday morning, Garowe Online reports.
Local residents reported that both sides have used heavy artillery in the clashes that caused unconfirmed casualties and the destruction of civilian properties in the city.

Police in India say they have killed at least 24 Maoist rebels in the eastern state of Orissa.
One police officer was killed and another injured in the gunfight that followed in a forest straddling the border between Orissa and Andhra Pradesh states.
The region has seen a long-running insurgency by Maoists.
