Iraq: Iraq says its forces have retaken most of eastern Mosul from ISIL

Iraqi forces claim they are now in control of most of eastern Mosul.

The military has faced setbacks, reportedly battling ISIL snipers, suicide bombers and drones. But officers say progress is being made and Iraqi soldiers have killed around 1,000 jihadists in recent days.

Yemen: Houthi fighters killed in clashes in Taiz

At least ten members of the Shia Houthi militia and their allies were killed in Thursday clashes with pro-government forces in Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province, according to a Yemeni military official.

“Yemen’s national army repulsed an attack by Houthi militiamen and their allies on an air-defense camp in western Taiz,” Colonel Abdu al-Saghir, leader of the army’s 17th Division, told Anadolu Agency.

Pakistan: Pakistani air force chief warns India against full-scale war

Pakistan’s air force chief on Thursday warned archrival India against escalating the dispute over Kashmir into full-scale war, urging New Delhi to exercise restraint.

Marshal Sohail Aman’s warning came as tensions are soaring between Islamabad and New Delhi over the contested Himalayan territory where Pakistan said Indian fire on Wednesday killed 12 civilians and three soldiers — the deadliest incident in weeks of border clashes.

Central African Republic: 16 dead and thousands displaced in clashes between Popular Front for the Renaissance of the Central African Republic (FPRC) and the Union for Peace in Central Africa (UPC)

Clashes between rival armed groups in the Central African Republic have left at least 16 people dead and displaced several thousand civilians, the UN has said, warning of “targeted assassinations” against ethnic Fulani.

“There have been at least 16 confirmed death and thousands displaced,” Vladimir Monteiro, spokesman for United Nations peacekeeping force MINUSCA, said in a statement yesterday.

The violence erupted on Monday between rival factions of the former “Seleka” Muslim rebel group in the town of Bria, 400 kilometres northeast of Bangui.

Cameroon: 6 Cameroonian troops killed in Boko Haram terrorist attack

Boko Haram terrorists launched an attack on an army base in the Lake Chad area on Monday that left six Cameroonian soldiers dead, according to a report by AFP.

“Boko Haram attacked a base of the Mixed Multinational Force on the island of Darak (on Lake Chad) at around 22:00 on Monday,” a military source revealed to AFP.
