Syria: 3 al-Nusra Front commanders and dozens of jihadists killed in airstrikes from Russian aircraft carrier

Three “well-known” commanders of Al-Qaeda’s Syria affiliate formerly known as Al-Nusra Front, including one who planned attacks on Aleppo, were killed in Russian strikes launched from aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov, a Defense Ministry spokesman said.

“As a result of strikes delivered by Su-33 carrier-based fighter jets and air group of the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier, a large gang of the Jabhat al-Nusra group was destroyed in the province of Idlib,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said Thursday.

South Sudan: SPLM-IO rebels claim capture of three areas in southern and northern parts of the country

South Sudanese armed opposition (SPLM-IO) forces Wednesday claimed the capture of three localities in southern, and northern parts of the country, following heavy fighting.

After the clashes in Juba last July and the appointment of Taban Deng Gai as First Vice President to replace SPLM-Io leader Riek Machar, the two warring parties have resumed clashes in different areas of the country.

Libya: 20 Libyan troops killed in clashes in Benghazi

At least 20 members of the Libyan National Army (LNA) have lost their lives over the past two days as they engaged in clashes with militants in the port city of Benghazi, an informed source told PressTV.

The same unnamed hospital source also claimed a further 40 LNA troops were wounded in the clashes.

Nigeria: Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) militants claim attack on Nembe Creek oil pipeline

Nigerian militant group Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) said on Tuesday it had attacked the Nembe Creek Trunk Line pipeline in the southern Niger Delta in a blow to the government’s efforts to quell militancy in the region.

The group, which in August said it would halt hostilities to pursue talks with the government, said on Sunday that it had resumed attacks because of the continued presence of the army in the region.

Somalia: Puntland and Galmudug leaders reach peace deal in Galkayo

The leaders of the semi-autonomous states of Puntland and Galmudug have held direct peace talks in Galkayo airport on Saturday afternoon.

Somali prime minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarake, UN envoy, along with EU and AU representatives were in presence in the closed door meeting in Galkayo to mediate the talks.
