Myanmar’s Rakhine state erupted in violence over the weekend with more than 30 insurgents killed, the military said, as fears grow for the strife-torn region.
Northern Rakhine, which is home to the Muslim Rohingya minority and borders Bangladesh, has been under military lockdown ever since surprise raids on border posts killed nine police last month.

Yemen’s Shia Houthi militia claim to have seized several villages in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Jizan province, the Houthi-run SABA news agency has reported.
SABA quoted a military source as saying late Thursday that Houthi militiamen had taken control of the villages of Al-Kars and Al-Dafiniya — along with other villages — east of Al-Bahtit and south of Al-Qarn.

Clashes broke out on Thursday between the People’s Protection Units (YPG) and Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province.
The clashes erupted near Shaddadi city south of Hasakah after an attempt by ISIS militants to storm YPG headquarters in the area.

The South Sudanese rebels Wednesday said they killed more than 21 government soldiers who attempted to recapture their position in northern Upper Nile region.
“We were attacked this morning by enemy forces around 7:30 am at Zaket, just 15 kilometres away from Wadekona town, but we repulsed back the attackers to the town,” SPLM-IO Spokesperson Paul Malieth told Sudan Tribune on Wednesday.
