Libya: Forces loyal to Libyan unity government fully liberate Sirte from ISIS terrorists

Forces loyal to Libya’s UN-backed government ​have fully liberated the militant stronghold of Sirte from the Daesh Takfiri terrorists, officials say.

Reda Issa, a spokesman for pro-government forces, made the announcement on Monday.

“Our forces have total control of Sirte,” Issa said, adding, “Our forces saw Daesh totally collapse.”

Iraq: Iraqi army launches fresh assault toward Mosul center

Iraqi army units surged toward the center of Mosul on Tuesday in an attack from the city’s southeastern edges that could give fresh impetus to the seven-week-old battle for Islamic State’s Iraqi stronghold.

Campaign commander Lieutenant General Abdul Ameer Rasheed Yarallah was quoted by Iraqi television as saying troops had entered Salam Hospital, less than a mile (1.5 km) from the Tigris river running through the city center.

South Sudan: South Sudanese rebels say killed 16 soldiers in Yei clashes

Forces loyal to South Sudan’s former vice president, Riek Machar claimed they killed 16 government soldiers in areas around Yei town of Central Equatoria state on Sunday.

Fresh clashes intensified over the weekend between the country’s two main rival forces around Lasu and Lobongo suburbs of Yei town.

India: 2 soldiers killed and 8 injured as Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) militants ambush Assam Rifles convoy

Two soldiers were killed and eight others injured as militants, believed to be from the banned Naga outfit NSCN-K, ambushed a convoy of the Assam Rifles along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, a defence spokesman said.

An Assam Rifle spokesman said the attack took place at Nginu village in Tirap district, in the radius of 20 km from the border.

Syria’s army advanced in east Aleppo Saturday in a devastating assault that has placed it in control of more than half the former rebel stronghold and sparked a civilian exodus.

Tens of thousands of civilians have fled eastern neighborhoods of the battered city since President Bashar al-Assad’s regime began its latest offensive in mid-November.
