Libya: Libyan National Army (LNA) has recaptured Ganfouda district from militants in Benghazi
Libyan forces have recaptured a main district in Benghazi from militants, a significant win in a long-running battle for control of the eastern city, a senior army officer said Wednesday.
“The area of Ganfouda has been completely liberated from terrorists,” Jamal al-Zahawi of the self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) told broadcaster Libya Channel.
He added that the insurgents, with suspected links to al-Qaeda, had been forced to flee to the nearby district of Buildings 12 in the western section of Benghazi.
“Our final battle in western Benghazi will be in Buildings 12 where terrorists are barricading themselves in.”
Al-Zahawi added that the LNA forces had safely released more than 60 people from militant captivity.
