Burmese army artillery units unceasingly pounded KIA’s Ngwa Le outpost in southeastern Kachin State fended by its 3rd Battalion troops under 5th Brigade on January 10, KLN’s frontline source reported.
Beginning at 1:40 p.m. on January 9, Burmese army troops based at Point 1103, Lai Hpawng and Law Hpyu reportedly fired more than 50 rounds of heavy artillery shells towards KIA positions in Nga Gyang and Sama Krung. On the same day at around 12:30 p.m., KIA troops reportedly ambushed a Burmese military truck transporting troops advancing from Ga Ra Yang, according to a frontline source.

Major defections have hit the South Sudanese army (SPLA) in Unity State after dozens of its forces reportedly joined the armed opposition allied to first Vice-President, Riek Machar in the north of the state.
In a statement, the armed opposition spokesperson, Col. William Deng, claimed 250 soldiers defected from Mayom county, northwest of Bentiu town.

Separate bomb attacks in Afghanistan have left at least 45 people dead and 105 injured.
Twin Taliban blasts struck near the Afghan parliament in Kabul this afternoon, killing at least 31 people and wounding 70 others in the rush-hour attack that shattered a relative lull in violence in the capital.

Biafra National Guard (BNG) which is a pro-Biafra group has given a one-month ultimatum to the federal government to release Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra agitators in detention.
The Sun reports that the group warned that it would carry out an offensive against the government unlike the first Biafra war which was more of a defensive one led by Odumegwu Ojukwu.

At least 68 fighters have been killed in two days of fierce battles between Yemeni forces and Shiite Houthi rebels near the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait, military officials said Sunday.
Government forces launched an assault Saturday, recapturing the coastal Dhubab district, just 30 kilometres (20 miles) north of Bab al-Mandab which links the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.
