Iraqi forces reached one of Mosul’s five destroyed bridges on Monday as they pushed deeper into the western half of Iraq’s second largest city, driving ISIS militants back with the help of US-led airstrikes.
Maj. Gen Thamir al-Hussaini said the militarized Federal Police advanced in the face of snipers, anti-tank missiles and suicide car bombs, describing “fierce” clashes in which Iraqi forces suffered casualties, without providing exact numbers.

Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry reported armed clashes in the Karabakh conflict area and Azerbaijan’s losses.
“During the night from the 24th to the 25th of February, units of the Armenian Armed Forces attempted an attack on Azerbaijan’s positions at various parts of the front line,” the defense ministry said. “Losses have been reported during the armed clash.”

Iraqi Kurdish reporter Shifa Zikri Ibrahim, known professionally as Shifa Gardi, was killed today by a roadside bomb while covering the Iraqi Army’s offensive against the Islamic State group in western Mosul for the Kurdish TV station Rudaw, the network said. A cameraman for the network, Younis Mustafa, was also injured in the bombing.

Conflicting news reported Friday afternoon that about 10 people from both sides of the clashes in Abu Salim, downtown Tripoli have been killed and several others were injured.
The clashes between Ghaniwa and Burki armed forces that are positioned in Abu Salim district continued on Friday with heavy and medium weapons used to shell randomly densely populated neighbourhoods.

Iraqi forces have regained control of the airport in Mosul, part of a months-long operation to push ISIS militants from the key city.
The airport — largely destroyed by ISIS forces — is now fully under Iraqi Federal Police control, said Col. Abdel Amir Mohamed, commander of the Rapid Response Unit of the Federal Police.
