Syria: Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters enter Islamic State (IS) held Deir al-Zour province

A US-backed alliance of Kurdish and Arab rebels has advanced into territory held by so-called Islamic State (IS) in Deir al-Zour province, eastern Syria.

Kurdish military sources said the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) had captured some 15 villages from IS.

Pakistan: Jamaat-ul Ahrar taliban faction claims responsibility for Tangi courthouse attack

Taliban suicide attackers have struck a courthouse in northwestern Pakistan, killing at least five people and injuring as many as 15.

The February 21 incident occurred at a region court in the town of Tangi, near the city of Peshawar.

Ukraine: Ukraine accuses rebels of breaking truce as Western concern rises

Ukraine’s military on Monday accused pro-Moscow rebels of breaking a new ceasefire deal barely hours after it came into effect, as Western powers warned Russia over its actions in the former Soviet state.

One soldier was killed and another wounded in fighting in the country’s separatist east despite the new truce that started at midnight, the army said.

Burma-Myanmar: 2 soldiers injured after clash with militants in Rakhine State

Two members of Burma (Myanmar)’s security forces were injured in a clash with militants on the troubled Rakhine State border with Bangladesh, Burma’s state counselor’s office said, casting doubt on the government’s claim that the region had stabilised.

The government last week said the situation in northern Rakhine had stabilised and that it had ended a four-month security crackdown on Rohingya Muslims.

Somalia: Death toll from car bomb in busy market in Mogadishu rises to 34

The death toll from a car bomb at a marketplace in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu has risen to 34 with 52 injured, said a police officer.

Many of the dead were carried away by their relatives soon after the blast, said Captain Mohamed Hussein.
