Turkey stepped up its bombing campaign against Kurdish militants outside its borders on Tuesday, killing as many as 20 U.S.-backed fighters in Syria and expanding its strikes in Iraq, an escalation that could complicate efforts to combat the Islamic State.
The Turkish military said the pre-dawn raids targeted “terrorist hotbeds” and supply routes used by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, to smuggle ammunition, weapons and explosive material into Turkey, where it is waging an insurgency.

Suspected Maoists have killed 24 policemen in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, in one of the biggest attacks by the rebels in recent years.
The officers were guarding road workers in the Sukma district, which has seen a long-running insurgency by Maoists.

An attack by Israeli military on pro-government forces in southern Syria has killed three fighters, the militia and a monitoring group said. Israel rarely publicly acknowledges its occasional strikes in Syria.
Britain-based war monitoring group the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, along with the National Defense Forces (NDF) militia in southern Syria reported that a military base in Quneitra province was attacked on Sunday.

As many 140 Afghan soldiers were killed on Friday by Taliban attackers apparently disguised in military uniforms in what would be the deadliest attack ever on an Afghan military base, officials said.
One official in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif, where the attack occurred, said on Saturday at least 140 soldiers were killed and many others wounded. Other officials said the toll was likely to be even higher.

Kenyan troops killed 52 al-Shabaab fighters in an attack on the militants’ camp in southern Somalia on Friday, a military spokesman said.
Colonel Joseph Owuoth, spokesman for Kenya Defence Forces, said the incident happened in Badhaadhe in Lower Juba.
