Iraq: Iraq forces free 11 year old Yazidi girl in Mosul

Iraqi forces in Mosul have freed an 11-year-old Yazidi girl who was kidnapped and sold as a slave by the Islamic State group in 2014, the federal police said Friday.

The girl was taken by the jihadists from the village of Kosho, south of the Yazidi hub of Sinjar in northern Iraq, together with her mother and sisters.

France: Isis claims responsibility for Paris shooting attack that left one police officer dead

Isis has claimed responsibility for the shooting attack in Paris that has left one police officer dead and two seriously injured.

In a statement from its Amaq news agency, the extremist group gave a pseudonym for the shooter indicating he was Belgian.

Afghanistan: 10 rebels killed and 13 wounded in clashes with security forces in Kandahar

At least 10 militants have been killed and 13 others wounded during a clash with security forces in southern Kandahar province, officials said on Wednesday.

The clash erupted late on Tuesday night in the Mianshin district, with both the sides suffering casualties, the governor’s spokesperson, Samim Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Islamic State has claimed responsibility for an attack on a police checkpoint just outside St. Catherine’s Monastery in Egypt’s southern Sinai, the group’s Amaq news agency said Tuesday.

Mali: French and Malian armed forces kill 12 Group for Support of Islam and Muslims (JNIM) extremists after attack on army camp

French and Malian armed forces killed at least a dozen Islamic extremists who attacked an army camp in northern Mali Tuesday, killing at least four soldiers and wounding another, according to a statement by the French Operation Barkhane.

The attack on the army camp in Gourma-Rharous, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) east of Timbuktu, also destroyed a half-dozen vehicles, army spokesman Lt. Col. Diarran Kone said.

French air forces, alerted by Mali’s army, responded as the assailants fled in two pick-ups, according to the Operation Barkhane statement.
