Iraq: Baghdad blasts kill 27 people as Iraqi forces battle ISIS in Mosul

Two bombings killed at least 27 people and wounded more than 115 in Baghdad, officials said Tuesday, May 30, as Iraqi forces fight to retake the last Islamic State group-held areas of Mosul.

In the deadliest of the two attacks, a suicide bomber detonated an explosives-rigged vehicle at a popular ice cream shop at around midnight (2100 GMT Monday), killing at least 16 people and wounding 75.

Philippines: Army in full control of Marawi city occupied by Maute terrorist group

Government forces have regained complete control of the city of Marawi and the clashes with the Daesh-linked Maute group will soon come to an end, spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines said Monday, according to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency (AA).

“Our forces are in complete control of the city, except for certain areas where they continue to hold. These are the subject of clearing operations that are continuously being conducted,” Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla Jr. was quoted as saying by GMA News.

Sudan: 21 Sudanese troops killed in Yemen

Sudanese military sources Saturday have dismissed media reports that 80 Sudanese troops have been killed in Yemen saying only 21 were killed, including 4 officers.

The Sudanese army has been participating in the Saudi-led military coalition since 2015 in a regional effort to back the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after he was ousted from the capital Sanaa by the Iran-backed Shiite Houthi rebels.

Libya: Terrorist jihadist group Ansar al-Sharia announces its dissolution

The Libyan jihadist group Ansar al-Sharia, which is linked to Al-Qaeda and deemed a terrorist organisation by the UN and United States, announced its “dissolution” in a communique published online on Saturday.

Washington accuses the group of being behind the September 11, 2012 attack on the US consulate in the eastern city of Benghazi in which ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed.

Afghanistan: Taliban attack Afghan army base killing 15 soldiers

At least 15 Afghan soldiers were killed when Taliban fighters attacked their army base in the southern province of Kandahar, the defence ministry said Friday, in the second such assault this week.

The attack in Shah Wali Kot district late Thursday came just three days after 10 Afghan soldiers were killed when Taliban militants stormed another base in the same area.
