A New People’s Army (NPA) amazon and an Army soldier were killed in separate armed encounters on Monday, a military spokesperson said.
Lt. Xy-zon Meneses, spokesperson for the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, said a female NPA member was killed in Occidental Mindoro while a soldier was killed in another encounter in Quezon.

Hundreds of Afghan families have fled fighting between the Taliban and government forces near the northern city of Kunduz as the insurgents captured a strategic district soon after launching their annual spring offensive.
The militants began their assault on the Qala-e-Zal district in Kunduz province on Saturday and captured most of it including the district centre.

Afghan and Pakistani forces accuse each other in deadly cross-border battle during Balochistan population census.
At least 15 people have been killed and dozens others wounded after a cross-border battle between Pakistani and Afghan forces during a Pakistani population census near the border, officials from both countries said.
The attack on Friday left dozens of people wounded and happened near the Chaman crossing point in Balochistan province prompting security forces to ask people to evacuate villages on the border.

South Sudanese army (SPLA) said Friday its forces have captured the headquarters of the opposition SPLM-IO fighters, allied to the exiled former First Vice President, Riek Machar, reversing all gains rebels made in the past months.
Lol State Minister of Agriculture Angok Achuol Barjok told Sudan Tribune on Friday that government forces have regained control of Dollo, some 20 miles west of Raja town, the administrative headquarters of Lol state.

A ceasefire in four zones outlined in a new Syria peace plan is scheduled to go into effect Saturday, a Russian envoy to de-escalation talks told reporters, according to state media.
The ceasefire will last six months and could be “automatically extended” for another six months, Alexander Lavrentyev said Friday after talks in Astana, Kazakhstan.
