A shootout between soldiers and the PKK terror group in the Lice district of southeastern Turkey’s Diyarbakır province has left one soldier dead and two wounded.
The security forces came into contact with a number of PKK terrorists in the Dibek village of Lice, telling them to surrender but met with gunfire instead.

At least two people are dead after an attack at a popular tourist resort near Mali’s capital city, Bamako, by suspected jihadi terrorists Sunday. Local residents reported hearing shots fired as smoke rose above the resort. One of the two deceased was identified as a French national by a spokesperson for Mali’s security ministry. The nationality of the other person killed is not known at the time of this writing.
“Security forces are in place” said Baba Cisse, spokesperson for the security ministry. “Campement Kangaba is blocked off and an operation is under way. The situation is under control.”

Iraqi forces on Sunday began penetrating the narrow streets and warrens of Mosul’s heavily populated old city, in the last phase of a monthslong battle against the Islamic State militants that American commanders have described as one of the toughest in urban warfare since World War II.
The assault began at dawn, with airstrikes and a push by Iraq’s counterterrorism forces into the neighborhoods of the old city. It was met with fierce resistance by Islamic State fighters, according to commanders, suggesting that the battle, the most vicious phase in the long fight for Mosul, could go on for days or weeks.

Djibouti has lodged a formal complaint with the African Union accusing soldiers from neighboring Eritrea of occupying a contested mountainous area after Qatari peacekeepers left the region this week, an official said.
The move threatens to renew a territorial dispute between the two East African nations that Qatar, now caught up in a diplomatic clash with other Arab nations, has helped to mediate.

Afghan forces have managed to retake Tora Bora from the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group, two days after the militants seized the key mountainous region along the border with Pakistan.
Acting Afghan Defense Minister General Tariq Shah Bahrami said on Saturday that the Afghan military had recaptured the area in the eastern province of Nangarhar after fierce clashes with Daesh in cave and tunnel complexes.
