The two main players in the Libya conflict have agreed to a ceasefire and fresh elections after French-backed peace talks in Paris.
Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj, the leader of the United Nations-backed government in Tripoli, and Gen. Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the so-called Libyan National Army which controls parts of the east of the country, came to an agreement in the French capital on Tuesday.

Forces loyal to General Haftar Khalifa, known as the Libyan National Army, clashed with rival armed groups in the port city of Benghazi amid the militia’s continued assertion of control over the country’s second most populous city.
The LNA killed six troops and wounded eight, a commander said on Saturday.

At least 15 Hezbollah militia fighters and one mediator have been killed in clashes with militants in Lebanon close to the border with Syria, it emerged on Saturday.
Hezbollah on Friday carried out a second day of operations against fighters attached to Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (JFS), the militant group formerly known as al-Nusra Front, which was aligned with al-Qaeda.

Taliban militants ambushed and killed 30 Afghan local police (ALP) members in northeastern Badakhshan province on Friday, a public representative said.
The rebels attacked security forces in Tagab district at about 9am this morning, said Kamil Baig, a member of the provincial council.
