Two German female tourists were stabbed to death while four other foreigners were wounded in an attack Friday at a hotel in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Hurghada, an Egyptian security official said.
The assault came just hours after a shooting near some of Egypt’s most famous pyramids outside of Cairo killed five policemen.

U.S. forces killed the leader of ISIS’ Afghanistan branch in a raid this week, the Pentagon announced Friday.
Abu Sayed, the emir of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria — Khorasan Province, was killed in a strike on the group’s headquarters in Kunar Province, Afghanistan, on Tuesday, Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement.

South Sudan government admitted that its forces launched offensives to take control of Pagak, a stronghold of rebels loyal to former First Vice-President Riek Machar.
The presidential adviser on military affairs, Daniel Awet Akot said Thursday that the move resulted from the rebels’ failure to observe the declared ceasefire.

Four Boko Haram suicide bombers killed 19 people in a series of attacks that targeted a civilian self-defense force and the people who gathered to mourn their deaths, police in Nigeria said Wednesday. It was the deadliest attack in months in the northeastern city of Maiduguri, the birthplace of Boko Haram’s eight-year insurgency.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says it has “confirmed information” that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), has been killed.
Rami Abdurrahman, director of the war monitoring group, told news agencies on Tuesday that Baghdadi died in Deir az Zor province in eastern Syria.
