Kenya: Al-Shabaab militants kill at least 3 policemen in day-long gun battle in Pandanguo

Suspected Somali al-Shabaab militants killed at least three police officers on Wednesday during a siege on a northeastern Kenyan town that sparked a day-long gun battle, a senior police official said. At least one policeman was missing.

The raid came after a series of attacks in Kenya claimed by Somali militants, killing at least 28 people in the last six weeks.

Libya: Fierce fighting as Libyan National Army (LNA) close in on last Benghazi holdout

East Libyan forces battled to advance into a final area of Benghazi controlled by their opponents on Tuesday, clearing mines and roadblocks and targeting snipers with cover from tank rounds.

Khalifa Haftar’s self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) says it is close to concluding a three-year campaign for control of Libya’s second city, having surrounded rival fighters in a strip of the seafront district of Sabri little more than two km (1-1/4 miles) wide.

Afghanistan: Taliban block Baghlan-Kunduz highway as clashes continue

Taliban insurgents have blocked the key Kunduz-Baghlan highway and have reportedly captured a number of check posts in the Taloka area of Kunduz.

Taliban insurgents on Monday continued with their attacks around Kunduz and blocked the Baghlan-Kunduz highway in Omerkhel area of Aliabad district of northern Kunduz province, security sources said.

At least 15 people died in clashes between UN peacekeepers and former rebels in the centre of the chronically restive Central African Republic, a humanitarian source said Sunday.

The violence broke out on Saturday in the market town of Kaga-Bandoro when rebels from the former Seleka movement of mainly Muslim fighters attacked the town “to settle an old score,” a source in MINUSCA, the UN mission which has some 12,000 troops in the country, told AFP.

Yemen: Several al-Houthi rebel leaders killed in clashes across Yemen

A number of Al Houthi military leaders and at least two dozen others have been killed in Saudi-led coalition air strikes or in fierce clashes with government forces on several flaring front lines in the last couple of days, Yemen’s Ministry of Defence said on Saturday.

The ministry’s official news site, 26septnews.net, said that fighter jets from the Saudi-led coalition killed Mahmoud Al Adbai and Abdul Aziz, identified as Al Houthi field leaders in the northern province of Hajja, while at least two dozen others were killed and injured in heavy clashes with government forces in Medi district.
