Clashes between Iraqi forces and Kurdish Peshmerga fighters broke out Friday as Iraqi units moved north of Kirkuk to the town of Altun Kupri.
Fighting began when Iraqi troops and Shia militias entered Altun Kupri in an operation “to impose law and order,” according to the Iraqi military.

At least 14 policemen were killed Friday in clashes with “outlawed” gunmen in Egypt’s Giza province, a government newspaper said.
Government daily Akhbar El-Yom quoted a security source saying: “14 policemen were martyred in [armed] confrontations with outlawed individuals at the 135-kilometer mark on the Oases Road,” southwest of Cairo.

The Afghanistan Taliban killed at least 43 troops at a southern military base on Thursday, taking the death toll from attacks by the insurgents this week past 120.
Of 60 soldiers manning the base in Kandahar province, 43 were killed, nine were wounded and six were missing after the militants attacked in the middle of the night, the defence ministry said.

Jihadists claiming to be ‘Islamic State in Central Africa’ have called for militants to join them in the Democratic Republic of the Congo after the extremist group’s self-styled ‘capital’, Raqqa, was reclaimed by US-backed Syrian forces.
A video circulating on pro-ISIS sites purports to be a message from dedicated jihadis, although ISIS has not expanded its official media output to the central African country.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday declared the liberation of the southern city of Marawi from Daesh-linked Maute terrorists after nearly five months of fighting that has left more than 1,000 people dead.
Duterte’s announcement came a day after the deaths of Abu Sayyaf head Isnilon Hapilon, the “emir” of Daesh for Southeast Asia, and Omarkhayam Maute, one of the Maute group’s key leaders, in a military assault in the main battle area.
