More than 100 people, including 80 suspected Taliban militants and 24 soldiers have been killed since clashes began in southern Uruzgan province last week, according to regional district official Thursday.
The clashes began when a large group of Taliban fighters had stormed Chora district of Uruzgan province lying in the middle of restive Ghazni, Kandahar and Helmand provinces.

Around 100 people have been killed and dozens of others injured since renewed fighting broke out Sunday between government armed forces and rebels loyal to former Vice President Riek Machar, an army spokesman said Wednesday.
The clashes took place in a volatile northeastern part of the country with both sides claiming victory, as the east African regional bloc — Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), an economic bloc that helped brokered a pact between the warring sides — attempts to restart talks aimed at bringing estranged groups to the negotiating table.

At least 16 members of a militia group have been killed in the troubled North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo, a military source has said.
The militia group had been engaged in intense fighting against the Congolese army since Friday, when at least four militiamen died.

Soldiers shot at least eight people dead in Cameroon’s restive anglophone belt at the weekend as a separatist group made a symbolic declaration of independence.
The separatists chose 1 October, the anniversary of the official reunification of the anglophone and francophone parts of Cameroon, to declare independence for “Ambazonia”, the name of the state they want to create.

At least 17 people have died in clashes between security forces and protesters in Cameroon’s English-speaking regions, Amnesty International said, as violence broke out in an area where a separatist movement is gathering strength.
The clashes began on Sunday after local groups called protests against what they say is their marginalization by the Francophone-dominated government of the country’s long-time ruler, Paul Biya. Witnesses said security forces opened fire, often at close range.
