Uganda: Uganda ready to deploy 5,000 troops in Somalia outside African Union and UN mandate

The Ugandan military on Thursday said it is ready to deploy 5,000 troops in Somalia outside the African Union (AU) and United Nations (UN) mandate for all-out offensive operations against the Al-Shabaab militants.

Brig. Richard Karemire, the military and defense spokesperson, told Xinhua that Uganda as a Pan-Africanist country is ready to send the troops as long as the international community commits resources for the operation.

Syria: Army captures last Islamic State (IS) stronghold in Syria

Syria’s army and its allies captured Daesh’s (also known as ISIS or ISIL) last stronghold in Syria on Wednesday, media reports said.

“The last stronghold of Daesh, al-Bukamal, is free of the Daesh organization,” a commander in the Syrian army said to Reuters.

Syrian state television also confirmed that “al-Bukamal is liberated”.

Nigeria: 42 insurgents killed in Madagali as soldiers repel Boko Haram attacks

Nigerian troops of “Operation Lafiya Dole,” stationed in Adamawa state, last night recorded another plus in the on-going counter-insurgency operations by courageously repelling a well planned attack by insurgents in Madagali, killing 42 terrorists according to reports.

Scores of Boko Haram terrorists, in their usual commando style laid a noiseless siege on Barkin Dutse village of Madagali at the dusk of Monday, met their waterloo, as gallant soldiers repelled the attacks, killing 42 terrorist and leaving scores wounded with gun-shot injuries.

Libya: Clashes between Operation Dignity forces and Shura Council fighters resume in Benghazi despite claims of liberation by Haftar

On Monday, three fighters from the forces of Operation Dignity led by Khalifa Haftar were killed and others were injured as clashes renewed in Sidi Kharabish in Benghazi.

The clashes broke out between Haftar’s fighters and Benghazi Shura Council fighters, who are still holding out in their last area in the city, which has been at war since May 2014 – the date of the launch of Operation Dignity.

Ukraine: Government says Russia-backed separatists violated cease-fire using heavy artillery

Ukraine’s Defense Ministry said on November 6 that Russia-backed separatists have used heavy artillery in persistent cease-fire violations in the Donetsk region over the previous 24 hours. It said that two soldiers were wounded.

A ministry statement said the separatists violated the ceasefire 23 times, firing at areas near the towns of Avdiyivka and Opytne with rocket launchers, 82-millimeter mortars, and heavy machine guns.
