Burma-Myanmar: Mortar rounds fall on Laiza and on gold and amber mines
Burmese army troops currently based at Mali Yang fired several mortar rounds on gold mines along Mali Hka and Houng Ing in Sumpra Bum area on Dec 26. Local residents said a few mortar shells fell near their homes in Ja Ra Yang village. No casualties have been reported so far.
On Christmas day, Burmese army troops reportedly fired over 100 mortar rounds on amber mines in Danai Township.
On Dec 24, Burmese army troops fired several mortar rounds on Woi Chyai IDP camp in Laiza injuring Lahpai Kai Nan, a volunteer teacher helping IDP children. Lahpai Kai Nan was later brought to Laiza General Hospital for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, battles continue to rage between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese Army in Kachin and northern Shan states.
