Renewed clashes erupted on a strategic Syrian hilltop yesterday as Kurdish militia fighters tried to retake it from Turkish troops.
Turkish military officials cancelled a government-organized press tour to Bursayah Hill, separating the Kurdish-held enclave of Afrin from the Turkish-controlled town of Azaz, due to “security concerns.”

Two days of unrest in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s southern opposition stronghold of Kasai have left nine people dead, local sources said on Tuesday.
The anti-government Kamwina Nsapu militia “killed four people Monday in the village of Bata Ishama” in Kasai province, local administrator Jacopo Pembe Longo told AFP.

Somali security forces on Monday killed at least seven al-Shabaab militants and injured a number of others following heavy fighting with insurgents in Bay region, in the south part of the Horn of Africa nation.
Burhakaba District Commissioner in Bay region Mohamed Ibrahim confirmed that four government soldiers, including a senior commander, were killed in the fighting.

Militants attacked an Afghan army unit guarding a military academy in the capital of Kabul on Monday, killing at least 11 soldiers and wounding 16, officials said. Hours later, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) affiliate in the country claimed responsibility for the assault.
It was the latest in a wave of relentless violence in Kabul this month unleashed by the Taliban and rival ISIS militants that has killed scores and left hundreds wounded.

Yemeni government forces clashed with separatists in the southern port city of Aden on Sunday in fighting that left at least eight people dead.
The country’s internationally recognized government considered the separatists’ assault an attempted “coup” backed by onetime ally the United Arab Emirates.
