Libya: Clashes between Special Deterrence Force and Brigade 33 shuts airport in Tripoli
Heavy clashes broke out around Mitiga Airport on Monday between the Special Deterrence Force, based at the airport, and Brigade 33 from Tajoura, APA reported citing The Libya Observer. Rada is an anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit.
It is occasionally targeted by rivals whose members it has arrested. “The number of wounded will be communicated later”, the ministry said on Facebook.
Local media reported that almost 30 people had been wounded in the fighting, which caused Mitiga to suspend all flights until further notice.
The global airport remains out of service.
Rada posted pictures of streets around the airport, showing pick-up trucks mounted with guns and a tank.
