Syria’s army has broken the siege of an army base encircled by opposition forces on the eastern outskirts of Damascus, state-run al-Ikhbariya TV and a war monitor reported on Sunday.
Last Sunday, rebels, mainly belonging to the Islamist Ahrar al Sham faction, widened their control of parts of the Military Vehicles Administration base in the Eastern Ghouta town of Harasta.

Al-Shabab militants said they carried out a mortar attack on a military outpost belonging to Puntland troops in the mountainous area of Galgala in Bari region, Garowe Online reports.
“We attacked the Puntland’s Darwish forces stationed at Galgala hills with mortar shells today. Several landed inside the army camp,” said Al Shabaab’s military operation spokesman Abdulaziz Abu Musab.

Violent clashes on Friday between armed groups in a western Libya village near a lucrative border crossing and port have left one dead and three injured, according to local residents and reports.
Militias loyal to the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) launched an attack on local armed fighters in Abu Kammash, a village on the outskirts of the port town of Zuwara, a major smuggling hotspot.

The Afghan Health Ministry says at least 11 people were killed and 25 injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in Kabul as security personnel were conducting an operation at the scene before the attack.
“We can confirm that so far 11 bodies have been brought to our hospitals as well as 25 wounded,” the AFP news agency quoted Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Majroh as saying on January 4.

Reports indicate that five Kenyan policemen were killed following an attack in the northeast of Mandera County near Somalia border.
The late Tuesday attack by suspected Al-Shabaab militants also saw them torch a police lorry according to Mandera South deputy county commissioner, Daniel Bundotich.
