Somalia: Al-Shabaab militants attack in Mogadishu leaves at least 22 dead

At least 22 people were killed in an attack by militant group al-Shabaab in Mogadishu on Friday, security officials and medical sources said.

Twin car bombs were used in the attack near the Somali capital’s presidential palace, which was followed by a fierce gun battle between the attackers and the security forces.

Afghanistan: 2 killed during infighting among Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and Hizb-ul-Ahrar terrorist groups

Infighting between banned terrorist group Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and its splinter group, Hizb-ul-Ahrar, led to the killing of a close aide of former Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan leaders Hakimullah Mehsud and Baitullah Mehsud, and another militant in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

According to sources, Jihad Yar Mehsud had joined Hizb-ul-Ahrar a few days back. However, he and his fellow militant, Aleem Khan alias Umer Kamal, were killed during a clash between Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and its splinter group.

Cameroon: Boko Haram jihadists kill 7 people in Cameroon and Chad

Nigeria’s Boko Haram jihadists have killed five civilians and two soldiers in fresh attacks in Cameroon and Chad, local sources said Thursday.

“A group of Boko Haram fighters made an incursion during (Tuesday) night in Assigashia,” a source close to administrative authorities in the northern Cameroon border area said, asking not be named.

Yemen: Yemeni forces seize Houthi-controlled posts in Lahij

The Yemeni army aided by the Arab coalition’s air force seized posts that the Houthi militia had controlled in the Al-Qabbaytah District, north of Lahij.

Army forces advanced west of Al-Qabbaytah District following violent clashes with the Houthi militias which were deterred from several posts.

Syria: More than 100 killed in army assault on Ghouta suburb

Intense Syrian government shelling and airstrikes on rebel-held Damascus suburbs killed nearly 130 people in two days, marking some of the deadliest bombardment of the rebellious region in three years, a monitoring group and paramedics said Tuesday.

Retaliatory shells rained down on Damascus, killing at least eight people and causing panic among residents of the Syrian capital, seat of President Bashar Assad’s power.
