The Escalating tension in Tukaraq town in northern Sool region has heightened fears that armed conflict between Puntland and Somaliland is fast approaching, Garowe Online reports.
The territorial dispute between the two neighboring states renewed following the capture of Tukaraq, about 90Km north of Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland by Somaliland forces on January 8.
The lucrative village had been fully controlled Puntland troops and served as a customs center and main entrance to the contested region before it fell to the regional army early this month, sparking tension.

Syrian rebels shot down a Russian warplane on Saturday and killed its pilot on the ground after he ejected from the plane, Russia’s defense ministry and Syrian rebels said.
The SU-25 came down in an area of northern Idlib province that has seen heavy air strikes and fighting on the ground between Syria’s government forces backed by Russia and Iran, and rebel groups opposed to President Bashar al-Assad.

South Sudanese warring parties have renewed clashes in the oil-rich town of Tharjath, south of state capital Bentiu several eyewitnesses and area residents have told Sudan Tribune on Friday.
The clashes erupted in the western part of Tharjath, an oil facility located 60 kilometres away south of Bentiu town.

Clashes erupted on Friday between the Libyan army and Islamic State (IS) militants near the town of Zalla in central Libya, killing one soldier and three IS terrorists, according to a statement by Mrada unit of the army’s Oil Installation Guards.
“A secret surveillance patrol of the unit clashed with an IS group after they tried to blow up the railway station of Al Waha Oil Company,” the statement said.

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates moved to contain deadly infighting between their Yemeni allies that threatens to jeopardize their common fight against Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
The two Gulf states sent a “top military and security delegation” to the site of the clashes, the southern port city of Aden, to monitor implementation of a cease-fire between Yemen’s elected government and the secessionist Southern Transitional Council, the U.A.E.’s official news agency reported on Thursday. Thirty-eight people have been killed and 222 wounded since the fighting began Sunday, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross.
