Iraq: 4 Islamic State (IS) members killed near borders with Syria and 5 leaders arrested in Mosul

Four Islamic State members were killed in an attack near Syrian borders, while five militant leaders were arrested as they attempted infiltrating into Mosul, Iraqi sources were quoted saying on Wednesday.

In remarks to Anadolu Agency, Lt. Gen. Sabhan Matar, of the army, said security troops managed to repel an IS attack, west of Tal Sufuk region, near borders between Iraq and Syria, which left four members killed.

Burma-Myanmar: Tatmadaw pushes back Kachin Independence Army (KIA) battalions in Kachin State, alliance says

The Myanmar military, or Tatmadaw, pushed back two battalions of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) based in southern Kachin State on Friday and Saturday, according to the Northern Alliance.

In a message posted to its Facebook page on Saturday, the alliance of four ethnic armed groups said the withdrawn KIA forces included Battalion 11, under Brigade 2, and Battalion 26, under Brigade 8.

Yemen: Pro-government forces clash with jihadists after Red Cross worker killed

Five pro-government soldiers were killed and 19 others were wounded in clashes with jihadists in Yemen’s southern city of Taiz on Monday, shortly after the killing of an aid worker with the International Committee of the Red Cross, medics said.

Fierce clashes broke out in the city’s Jahmaliah district after an operation was launched against militants suspected to be behind the murder of the ICRC employee over the weekend, according to an officer, who was unable to provide further details.

Afghanistan: 57 killed in Kabul suicide bombing, ISIS claims responsibility

A suicide bomber struck a voter registration center in the Afghan capital on Sunday, killing at least 57 people in an attack claimed by ISIS.

Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahid Majro said another 119 people were wounded in Sunday’s attack, updating an earlier toll. Gen. Daud Amin, the Kabul police chief, said the suicide bomber targeted civilians who had gathered to receive national identification cards.

Nigeria: Troops repel Boko Haram attack in Gamboru-Ngala

The Nigerian Army on Saturday said its troops successfully repelled attack by Boko Haram insurgents at Gamboru-Ngala in Borno.

Brig.-Gen. Texas Chukwu, the Director, Army Public Relations, in a statement said that one insurgent was killed while several others fled.

Chukwu said: “troops of 3 Battalion on operation LAFIYA DOLE had successfully repelled Boko Haram terrorists’ attack at Gamboru Ngala, Borno State.
