Israel: Israel Defence Force official confirms Israel struck Iranian base in Syria

An Israeli defense official confirmed that it was the Israeli Air Force that struck the T-4 air base in Homs, Syria, last week, The New York Times reported on Monday.

New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman quoted an unnamed Israeli official as saying, “It was the first time we attacked live Iranian targets, both facilities and people.”

Mali: Militants attack French and UN bases disguised as peacekeepers

A rocket and car bomb attack on French and UN soldiers in Mali has left one person dead and many others injured.

Militants disguised as UN peacekeepers - in distinctive blue helmets and driving a vehicle marked with the UN logo - struck two bases near the airport in Timbuktu.

Egypt: Army says 8 soldiers and 14 jihadists killed in attack on Sinai military camp

Egypt’s army said jihadists wearing explosive belts tried to storm a military camp in the Sinai Peninsula on Saturday in an assault that left eight soldiers and 14 attackers dead.

The militants blew themselves up outside the camp after they were prevented by security forces from entering, an army statement said.

Syria: US, United Kingdom and France attack chemical weapons sites

The US, UK and France have bombed multiple government targets in Syria in an early morning operation targeting alleged chemical weapons sites.

The strikes were in response to a suspected chemical attack on the Syrian town of Douma last week.

Somalia: Al-Shabaab claims responsibility for bomb blast at packed soccer stadium, at least 5 killed

A bomb exploded at a packed football stadium in southern Somalia and killed five spectators while wounding several others, police said Thursday evening.

The Somalia-based, al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab extremist group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion in the port town of Barawe. Witnesses said the bomb had been buried in the sandy stadium and went off during the local-level match.
