Troops backed by a Saudi-led coalition on Wednesday launched an assault on Yemen’s main port city of Hodeidah, in the biggest battle of a three-year war between an alliance of Arab states and the Iran-aligned Houthis.
Coalition warplanes and warships were carrying out strikes on Houthi fortifications to support ground operations by Yemeni troops massed south of the Red Sea port, the internationally recognized Yemeni government in exile said in a statement.
On Tuesday, violent clashes broke out between Sudanese government forces and fighters of the Sudan Liberation Movement-Abdel Wahid al-Nur (SLM-AW) in the Central Darfur State, forcing thousands of civilians to flee their villages.
A Sudanese official told Sudan Tribune that SLM-AW fighters recently regained control of several positions in Jebel Kali and Badia areas, adding this development forced the Sudanese army to mobilize more than 2,000 troops including the Rapid Support Forces to retake these areas from them.
After days of deadly clashes, ISIS militants have withdrawn from the key city of al-Boukamal on the Euphrates River in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province, a conflict monitor reported.
ISIS launched consecutive attacks on Friday against regime forces and their allied Iranians and members of Lebanese Hezbollah in the al-Boukamal area. At least 48 of the regime forces and their allies died in 72 hours of clashes, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
At least 10 Afghan soldiers were killed and five others wounded after Taliban insurgents attacked joint security checkpoints in Afghanistan’s northern Qala-e-Zal district, Kunduz province Monday, sources said.
The clashes started early Monday morning after militants launched coordinated attacks on security checkpoints in Aaq Tipa locality of the district in provincial capital Kunduz, Sayyed Asadullah Sadat, a provincial council member, told Xinhua.
