The Syrian government regained control of the frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights for the first time in seven years on Monday, after Islamic State-linked militants gave up their last pocket of territory in the area.
The breakthrough against the militants, reported by state media and an opposition-linked war monitoring group, capped a six-week-long campaign to retake the southwest corner of the country.

Troops have killed 16 members of the Boko Haram terrorist group at Mairari, a village located in Monguno Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, North-East Nigeria.
The Deputy Director of Public Relations, Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

Two PKK terrorists, who opened fire on a gendarmerie station, were neutralized Saturday in southeastern Sirnak province, according to a security official.
Turkish authorities often use the word “neutralized” in their statements to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

Army soldiers and suspected New People’s Army rebels clashed in an encounter in Padre Burgos town in Quezon province Friday, police said.
Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police director, quoting spot report from local police station, said that a still unidentified rebel was killed in the encounter between troopers from the Army’s 85th Infantry Battalion and a band of communist guerillas in the mountainous area of Barangay (village) San Isidro around 5 p.m.

The United States executed an air strike against al-Qaeda’s affiliate in Somalia early this week, Garowe Online reported today.
“In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, US forces conducted an air strike targeting al-Shabaab militants approximately 50 kilometres north of Kismayo, Somalia,” Major Karl Wiest, a spokesman for US Africa Command, said.
